Ok, so I've been getting really irritated lately b/c so many people at the gym are lacking some common sense when it comes to figuring out the basic gym eitquette....those "unspoken" things that you should just do. Well, actually, some of these ARE "spoken". You know, those BIG signs ALL over the mirrors with the friendly reminders. Yet, some still don't pay attention. Not that any of you reading this blog need to be reminded of these, but we can work together to create the best etiquette list and only hope that one day everyone will follow them :)
1. Clean up your sweat!!! Bring a towel with you and don't leave a nasty wet spot where your head, butt, back, chest or hands were!! GROSS This includes the Cardio equipment!
2. Don't spend an hour on the treadmill or elliptical during peak workout times. Divide it up or come at a different time. Share the wealth.
3. If you are doing an exercise that requires loading weights on a rack, TAKE THEM OFF when finished. Not everyone can lift 45 lb weights off. I can, of course. haha
But there are others who can't and it is inconsiderate to leave it there for them to take off just because you are too lazy to do so.
4. Do not use medicine balls as hacky sacks, soccer balls, etc. It is not to be bounced and juggled. Go to the kiddy play ground with your kickball if you're not going to use the equipment the right way.
5. Don't workout with your whole football, baseball, wrestling, etc TEAM. If you're working out with that many people, you're going to take up machines that others could be using for excessively long periods of time. Do that at school--they provide the necessary equipment. OR just pick one buddy to come with.
6. Don't watch people and wait for them to pause in between sets so you can ask them about their weekend, their opinion on the weird dude in the corner, or their latest advice on how to get ripped. Wait until they are leaving, or ask for their card or email address and chat about it then. It's not social hour.
7. Machines are not chairs. They are machines. If you're not using it as a machine....go home.
8. Don't use three machines at once. Just don't. Pick one, knock out your 3 or 4 sets and move on.
9. Turn off the water in the bathroom so the locker room doesn't get flooded.
10. Don't be a creepy person and stare. Workout. Get ripped. Go home. Don't make people feel uncomfortable just b/c you aren't getting satisfied at home!
Ok, I'm done. Feelfree to comment with anything that you feels need to be added.
Preach it, sister! :)
